Type in the school specific passcode provided by the district. (Contact your Technology Integration Coach for your school code.)
Please use first.last or first.last@cmcss.net as your username and choose a password.
Complete the registration process to create your individual teacher account.
*If you previously had a trial account or individual account with Discovery Education and have difficultly logging with your email address and school code, please click here and follow the directions for logging in with a school code.
2. Teachers will need to have a class made in Discovery Education to assign writing prompts to students.
Creating a class(es) in Discovery
1. Once you are in Discovery, click on the CLASSROOM MANAGER tab.

2. Click on Create a Class from School Roster.
3. Give your class a name.
4. Filter the students in your school by grade level, click GO.
5. Put a check beside each student you want to be added to your class.
6. You will notice your class is being built on to the right.
7. You can go to different pages to select students and it will keep your
student selections on previous pages.
8. Once you have chosen all of the students for your class, hit SAVE.
9. After saving, you can create another class, or return to the previous page.
3. Teacher creates a folder under the MY CONTENT tab to store writing prompts, video, assignments, and quizzes.
Adding a folder within My Content allows you to organize resources so that you can easily find them. You may also create folders within folder to further organize your resources.
1. Within My Content, click on the "Add Folder" button.
You can add your writing prompts, videos, and images here to find and share them easily.
2. A new folder will appear. This will allow you to name the new folder.
3. Give the new folder a title.
4. Teacher creates a writing prompt in the Writing Prompt Builder on Discovery Education.
5. Teacher assigns the writing prompt to the class or individual students.
After the writing prompt has been built, teachers can assign it to the class several different ways.
1. After building your writing prompt, you can choose a due
date and assign to your class(es).
OR
1. Go to the My Content tab, and find the desired writing prompt.
To the left is ACTIONS, click on this. A drop down menu will appear,
and you will choose ASSIGN.
2. Teachers will then choose the details of the writing prompt such as
assign date, due date, assign to class, and assign to students. Then click
SAVE.
6. When students login, they will see the prompt under the ASSIGNMENTS tab.
7. Students can respond to the prompt at any computer with an Internet connection. They can return multiple times to work on the prompt and finally submit it to the teacher.
8. After students have submitted their responses, teachers will go back to the CLASSROOM MANAGER to assess student work.
1. Go to CLASSROOM MANAGER and click on Results by Student.
2. Teacher will choose the student whose work they would like to review.
3. Click the drop down menu on the right to choose the desired action. (View-This will allow the teacher to view the writing prompt. Un-assign will allow the teacher to withdraw a writing prompt, assignment, or quiz. The Edit Date feature will allow the due date to fit the needs of the classroom. Results/comments will allow teachers to review the student response, make comments, and submit it back to the students.)

4. By choosing Results/Comments, teachers will be able to read the student response, make comments, and submit it back to the students.
5. Students can log onto Discovery Education, go to their Assignments tab, and review the teacher's comments. Then, they can revise their writing prompt and resubmit it to the teacher.
OR
1. Go to CLASSROOM MANAGER and click on Results by Class.
2. Here you will see a listing of the assignments.
3. Choose and click on the desired assignment. An assigned to list will appear with several options.
(*Notice the options may vary depending on the student's status for that assignment.)
Sharing Writing Prompts
Teachers may share resources, within My Content, at a school level. This allows subscribers, within your school, to access your favorite Discovery Education media resources, assignments, quizzes, writing prompts, or board builders.
1. Go to My Content. (You must be in New View.)
2. Locate a resource or a folder, within My Content, that you
wish to share with your school.
(There are two ways to share content via a link or by copying it to the school conent. Instructions for both are listed below.)
Share Content Via Link
3. By selecting Share from the Action drop down menu, a link will be displayed and you can simply send that to anyone with a Discovery account.
You can share whole folders or just one assignment, quiz, writing prompt, or board builder inside the folder.
OR Share Content Via School Content
4. Folders and specific assignments, quizzes, writing prompts, or board builders can be copied to your School Content for others to access.
Select Move/Copy from the Action drop down menu for the assignment you would like to share.
5. Select a destination for the assignment you are sharing.
